ATTENTION LUCKETTS RESIDENTS

I have debated on whether to address this situation or to just
continue living life by not speaking out. Well as you can see I have decided I must speak out on behalf of my family and my neighbors. My family has lived in Lucketts for almost 20 yrs and we have grown as a community. With 2 new developments encroaching on our community over the last 5 yrs, on the Lucketts Road side, with another soon to come right off Lucketts Road. Our issue, and I am sure I speak for all our community, is that with all the new residents, with the various landscaping business’ and the various excavating companies now residing here – please take notice that the following roads are not race ways – Lucketts Road, Chapel Lane, Evans Pond Road. On a daily basis homeowners (even people who have lived here for years, you know who you are) the various tandem trucks, the various construction vehicles and yes even the resident police officers and fire trucks (not on a call) and their families travel these roads in excessive rates of speed. You may feel as if your following the speed limit – but please remember there are hidden driveways, there are children that ride bikes, there are walkers, pets and the occasional deer crossing – with the speed we see up and down these roads it is a matter of time before someone loses a life or a loved one because of your disregard for your neighbor.
ON numerous occasions I have had to jump to the side of the road when getting my mail, my husband has almost been hit when out fixing our mailbox because of someone traveling too fast and hit our mailbox.’

Now with the snow banks and the road being narrowed by the weather and snow it’s gotten worse. These roads are country roads, they are not Route 15 you cannot safely travel 40 mph, the speed limit is too high on these roads, and over the years I have begged VDOT to reduce the speed – which finally happened from the light to past the fire dept to 30 mph but then as you go past that the posted speed limit is higher than that of
Battlefield Parkway which is 4 lane highway – It took me 8 years to finally get them to post signs for school bus stop –

Please people slow down – there is nothing so important to get to that requires you to speed on these roads – slow down save a life. It’s a matter of time before someone is killed in front of our house and we personally do not want to witness this because some idiot is travelling to fast.

The Stuart Family
